Summerville Rovers Football Club Created by MasterClass4u.com
A Brief Look at Our Club History....

Summerville Rovers started as a schoolboy club towards the end of the 1954 local cricket season with the arrival of the winter  and the attention was diverted to soccer. Over the next two years, friendly
matches were arranged between teams from all parts of the City. The club
was then based mainly in the South Circular Road area. Summerville Rovers
applied for membership of the Limerick Schoolboys League in 1956 and
were duly elected to compete in the League competition that summer. Their
first  their first competitive match was against Wolf Tone Rangers in
Caledonian park, which ended in a scoreless draw.

They continued in Schoolboy Football until 1967 fielding three teams at
under 13, 14 & 15, when due to lack of personel we had to withdraw from
Schoolboy football. In the same year Summerville Rovers attention switched
to juniour football and played their first ever game agains Ballananty Rovers on Sept 1st at Shelbourne Park. But due to lack of
players & facilities it only lasted the one season.

It took until 1974 for Summerville Rovers to re-enter the Junior Football League. The team lined out in the colour of maroon and white on Sunday August 1975 in the Pike Field with Glebe Rangers providing the opposition. Summerville were now based at Portland Park in Ballinacurra Gardens, which they shared with Priory United.

Summerville Rovers introduced a minor team in the 1975 / 76 season and were back again in Schoolboy soccer for the 1981/ 82 season. Now based in Portland Park, the club expanded into a wider catchment area including the new housing estate of Ballinacurra Gardens, Roundwood Estate and the wider Rosbrien and Ballincurra areas.

Over the coming years Summerville went from strength to strength on and off the playing fields with the introductions of additional schoolboy and junior teams.

The story of Summerville Rovers is well documented both in Print & Picture. This is mainly down to the foresight of our founding members Aidan Corr & Charlie Elliott. Aidan has documented our first 40 years in existence with his two publications, "Silver Jubilee Special" and "40th Anniversary Club History", and Charlie has amassed a large collection of photographs which have been added to by a succession of Club officials.

These two publications and the gallery of photographs are available on this site.
